About Apps That Pay

Apps That Pay is an earnings tracker for people who use reward apps. If you run four or five earning apps at once, the one number none of them will tell you is the one that matters: how much you have made across all of them. This is where you keep that record.

It pays you nothing, and on this site of all places that needs saying first. The name describes the apps it tracks, not the app itself: there are no coins in it, no balance and no cash-out. It does not sign in to any reward app or read a balance from one. Every figure in it is one you typed. If you are looking for an app that pays, the four reward apps are the ones that do.

Each app you track gets a log of dated cash-outs rather than one number you overwrite and forget. A cash-out you have requested and not yet received can be marked pending: it sits under its app so you do not forget it, and stays out of every total until you say it arrived. Money you have asked for is not money you have made, and some reward apps take weeks to pay.

Tap the total and it breaks down: a monthly average, your best month, the biggest single cash-out and who paid it, a year of monthly bars, and every app ranked by what it has earned you. Apps that have never paid stay in that ranking, at the bottom, because that is the useful part. Add roughly how long a cash-out took and it works out what an hour was worth, built only from the cash-outs you timed rather than divided into your whole total.

The apps come from a catalog of 31 reward apps, compiled and checked by hand against each one’s published terms, with filters for how it pays out, what kind of earning it is, which platforms it runs on and its cash-out minimum. Our own four reward apps are in it on the same terms as everything else. Where a minimum could not be verified the app shows none rather than a guess. Anything the catalog lacks, you can add yourself.

There is no account and no server. What you enter is stored on your device and nowhere else, and it has its own privacy policy saying so. It is free and carries one banner ad, which is the only part of it that contacts the internet.

How to use it in the moment

Pick the reward apps you use from the catalog, or add one it does not have.
When one of them pays you, log the cash-out: the amount, the date and a note. Requested but not arrived yet? Mark it pending.
Read the total at the bottom of the sheet, for this month, this year or all time.
Tap the total to see which apps are pulling their weight, and which have not paid in months.
Export a CSV for a spreadsheet, or a JSON backup to move to a new phone.

Frequently asked questions

When is it coming out?

It is coming soon to the App Store, for iPhone and iPad. This page will carry the download button the day the listing goes live, and not before — there is no store link here yet because there is no listing to link to.

Does this app pay me anything?

No. It tracks what other apps pay you; it has no coins, no balance and no cash-out of its own. The four apps we publish that do pay are on our apps page, and they are in this app’s catalog like any other.

Does it connect to my reward app accounts?

No. It never signs in to anything and never reads a balance. Every amount in it is one you entered, so it knows only what you tell it.

Where is my data kept?

On your device, and only there. There is no account and no server of ours for it to go to. The one thing that leaves the app is a request for its banner ad. Details are in this app’s privacy policy.

Are the cash-out minimums in the catalog accurate?

They are the published US-dollar figures, compiled by hand, and they change without notice. Treat them as a browsing aid rather than a promise, and check with the app before relying on one. Where a minimum could not be verified, the app shows nothing rather than a number that might be wrong.

Is there an Android version?

Not at launch. It is coming to the App Store first, for iPhone and iPad.
