This policy covers one app: Apps That Pay for iPhone and iPad. Our other apps and this website are covered by the general Illumination Development privacy policy, which does not apply here — it describes accounts, reward balances and redemption records that this app does not have.
The short version
We never receive the numbers you put in this app. There is no account, no sign-in and no server of ours for the app to talk to. The apps you choose to track, the amounts you record and the cash-outs you log are written to local storage on your device and stay there. Its App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected" for everything the app itself does.
The one exception is advertising, and it is the only part of this policy with anything in it. The app shows a single banner ad, and Google's advertising SDK — not us — may collect an advertising identifier to serve it. That is described in full below, along with how to turn personalised ads off.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter. The app keeps three sets of records in local storage:
- Which apps from the catalog you have chosen to track.
- The amount you have recorded against each one.
- Your cash-out log — the dated entries you add for each app.
- Any app you added yourself that was not in the built-in catalog.
None of it is transmitted anywhere. It is not backed up to a server of ours, because there is no server of ours. If your device backs up to iCloud, that copy is governed by Apple's terms and your own iCloud settings, and we have no access to it.
Delete my data in Settings erases all of it permanently. Because the copy on your device is the only copy that exists, deleting the app does the same thing. Neither leaves anything behind with us to delete.
Export and backup
Settings offers a CSV export for spreadsheets and a JSON backup for moving to a new phone. Both are produced on your device and handed to the standard iOS share sheet, so the file goes wherever you send it — Files, Mail, AirDrop, or another app of your choosing. It is not uploaded to us and we never see it. Restoring reads a file that you pick.
Advertising
The app is free and shows one banner ad, supplied by Google AdMob. To serve it, the Google Mobile Ads SDK contacts Google and may collect device and advertising information, including an advertising identifier — Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iPhone and iPad, and Google's Advertising ID (AAID) on Android — along with coarse device and app data. This is the only part of the app that makes a network request.
The ad SDK is never given anything you typed. Your earnings, your cash-out log and your list of tracked apps are not passed to it, and it has no way to read them.
Google's use of that information is governed by Google's own privacy policy. You can read how Google uses data from apps that use its services there.
Your choices about ads
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form the first time you open it, before any ad is requested. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time from Ad privacy options in Settings.
- On iPhone and iPad, the app asks for App Tracking Transparency permission. Declining is a complete answer: the IDFA is withheld and you still get the app, with a non-personalised ad instead. You can change it later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Anywhere, iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Advertising lets you limit ad tracking system-wide.
What the app does not do
- No account, sign-in or profile. The app never asks who you are.
- No analytics, usage measurement or event logging. There is no analytics SDK in the app.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting SDK.
- No backend of ours, and no network request other than the ad.
- No location collection by the app. It does not ask for location permission.
- No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health or motion data.
- No connection to the reward apps listed in the catalog. The app does not sign in to them, does not read your balance from them, and does not know whether you use them. Every number in it is one you typed.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, in the specific senses the CCPA and CPRA give those terms.
About the catalog
The list of reward apps, their icons and their stated cash-out minimums are compiled by hand and bundled inside the app when you download it. The app does not look anything up while you use it, and the companies listed are not told that you track them — they are not involved in this app at all.
Apps That Pay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the apps listed in it. Their names and icons are used only to identify them. Cash-out minimums and payout terms change without notice; treat them as a browsing aid and check with each app before relying on them.
If you email us
Contact Support in Settings opens your own mail app with a message addressed to support@illuminationdevelopment.com. Nothing is attached to it: no device identifier, no diagnostics, no copy of your earnings. It is an ordinary email and you can see and edit every word before you send it.
If you do send one, we have your email address and whatever you chose to write. We use it to reply to you and nothing else — it is not added to a mailing list, not used for advertising, and not shared or sold. Ask us to delete it and we will.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and CPRA, and comparable laws elsewhere, you have rights to access, correct, port and delete the personal information a company holds about you. We hold nothing about you from this app, so there is nothing here to exercise them against — and you can exercise the deletion right yourself, immediately and without asking us, using Delete my data in Settings.
Two things sit outside that. Any email you have sent us: to have it deleted, write to privacy@illuminationdevelopment.com. And information held by Google from serving the ad, which is subject to Google's privacy policy and the controls described above.
Children
The app is rated for general audiences but is intended for adults who use reward apps. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and the app collects no personal information from anyone.
A note about this web page
The app does not display this page — tapping Privacy Policy in the app opens it in Safari, and this website, unlike the app, does use Google Analytics to see which pages people find useful. That is described in the general policy, and it applies to your visit to this page, not to your use of the app.
Changes to this policy
If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the version that changes it reaches the App Store, and the App Store privacy label changes with it. Revisions are posted here with an updated date.
