About Sizzle Swap

Sizzle Swap is a cooperative cooking game for two, or for one person working both jobs. Orders arrive on a rail. One cook works the prep station, taking ingredients from the bins and chopping them on a board; the other works the heat station, frying them in three pans and plating them onto the orders. You can play it in this browser right now.

It is not in a store yet. It is coming to the App Store and Google Play, and until it arrives the browser version is how to play it. There is no download button on this page because there is nothing to download yet.

Every ingredient has to be chopped at prep and cooked at heat, and none skips either station. So neither cook can finish a single order alone. The only way between the two stations is the pass, and it holds three portions. When it is full the prep cook cannot send anything, which means running ahead of your partner stalls you exactly as much as falling behind.

There are forty shifts across five kitchens, and each shift is two minutes against a rail that gets busier as you climb. Every new kitchen adds dishes, from a one-part tomato soup to a three-part burger stack: ten dishes from eight ingredients. Leave a pan too long and it burns; leave an order waiting too long and the customer leaves. Each shift is scored out of three stars.

The eight ingredients differ in shape as well as color, whole and chopped, so they can be told apart by anyone, whatever colors they see. That matters in a game where two people call ingredients out to each other. There is no computer partner in solo play: one person does both jobs, in the same kitchen, and it is harder.

On the store versions there are three ways to play: two people sharing one phone turned sideways, two phones on the same Wi-Fi, or alone. The game is in English, Spanish and Portuguese, needs no account, and keeps its progress on the device.

How it plays

  1. Take an ingredient. Tap a bin at the prep station and the ingredient goes onto the board.
  2. Chop it. Press it on the board in short presses until it is chopped. A long press bins the portion.
  3. Send it through the pass. Tap the chopped portion. The pass holds three, so keep pace with the heat cook.
  4. Cook it. The heat cook taps a portion in the pass to put it in a free pan, and watches it before it burns.
  5. Plate it. Tap a cooked pan and it goes onto the order that needs it most. An order is served the moment it is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Sizzle Swap on the App Store or Google Play?

Not yet. It's coming to both. Until it lands, you can play it in this browser, free, with nothing to install.

Can two people play?

Yes. On one touchscreen, turned sideways, each of you takes a station: one chops, the other fries. The store versions will add a second way, two phones on the same Wi-Fi with a station each, which a browser can't do. With a mouse there's only one pointer, so on a computer it's one cook working both stations.

Can I play it alone?

Yes. You work both stations yourself, in the same kitchen and against the same orders. There's no computer partner, so it's harder, and every good shift is yours.

Does Sizzle Swap pay me anything?

No. It's a game with nothing to earn but stars. The apps that do pay are on their own page, at a published rate.

Does the browser version have ads?

No. The ad network has no browser version, so there's nothing to show. The store versions will carry a small banner on the menus and a full-screen ad after every fourth finished shift, never while a shift is running.

Does it save my progress?

Yes, in this browser. Stars, best scores and how far up the ladder you are live in the browser’s own storage, not in an account, so they don't follow you to another browser or device, and clearing your site data or using a private window loses them.

Why does it ask me to turn sideways?

The kitchen needs the long edge of the screen: the prep station, the pass and the heat station sit side by side. The menus work either way up; a shift only starts in landscape.
