Where we stand, before the list. We make a card centering app, Dead Center, so this is our own category and we are not neutral in it. It is free with one banner ad, on Google Play since October 2026, and it has no iPhone version. It is on the list below, last, and it is not the verdict. We take no referral fee from any app named here.

Card Grader Pro photographs a card and returns an estimated grade, judged by AI on centering, corners, edges and surface, with a human review for an extra fee. It leads the App Store's search for “card grading” with 4,919 ratings. Pro costs $49.99 a year. Three of the four reviews the App Store showed first on 20 October 2026 say the AI gave the same grade to card after card, and two of those reviewers had paid for the year. Of the four things it grades, centering is the only one a phone photo can measure with a ruler's certainty. The apps below split on that: some measure centering and stop, and some sell a full AI estimate.

What each one costs, read off the listings

Read on 20 October 2026. Apple's column is the In-App Purchases row in each listing's Information section, which shows prices with no billing periods unless the item name gives one. The Play column is the badges under the title, because none of these Play listings shows a price.

What an AI grade can and cannot see

A grade is the lowest of several judgments, and centering is the one that has published numbers. Our centering chart collects them from each company's own scale: a PSA 10 allows about 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back, and a PSA 9 allows 60/40 and 90/10. A card outside those limits cannot reach the grade, whatever its corners look like. Corners, edges and surface have no such numbers, and a phone photo under room light is a poor witness to whitening or a print line. Card Grader Pro's description says as much: it calls its grades informational estimates and says it does not guarantee the grade any company will give. One App Store reviewer paid for its human review of a 1957 Topps card, was told 6, and says PSA returned a 2.

Two other details are on the listing. It is an eBay Partner and may earn a commission on purchases made through links in the app, and its Pro plans cost $59.88 or $119.88 a year if paid monthly rather than yearly. That is our arithmetic from Apple's list.

The alternatives

Card Centering Calculator, by Jade Lizard Software

The most-rated centering-only app on the App Store, with 2,521 ratings at 4.7, for iPhone and iPad. It detects the card's edges, corrects a skewed photo, and lets you drag each border guide under zoom. It shows the best centering grade at PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC, TAG and ACE, front and back, and version 2.1 on 7 October 2026 added a mode for Pokémon e-Reader cards. Premium is a single $4.99 item, and one thing it adds is border widths in millimetres or inches. Apple's age-rating panel says it contains advertising, and its App Privacy panel lists Location, Identifiers, Usage Data and Diagnostics as data used to track you. A search of Google Play for it by name on 20 October 2026 found nothing.

Card Centering Calculator, by Allegro Creative

The Android counterpart in size: 100K+ downloads and 1,330 reviews at 4.8 on Google Play, last updated 12 August 2026, with no Contains ads badge and a Data safety section reading No data collected. It detects borders, allows manual adjustment, and compares against PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC and TAG. A Google Play review from April 2026 says the free version allows five scans a day. Its package name carries the name of Arda Sen, whose App Store listing, Card Centering Calculator: CCC, sells $2.99 weekly and $19.99 yearly subscriptions and reads Data Not Collected. The Play listing shows no prices.

Centering Check, by GCTCG

Ad-free by its own subtitle, on both stores, with 10K+ downloads on Google Play. Two features set it apart: it takes a screenshot of an online listing and flattens it, so you can check a card before buying it, and it measures a batch of photos and ranks them by centering. Apple's list has Pro at $3.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $99.99 for life, plus tips. Its App Privacy panel lists device identifiers, usage and diagnostics as collected but not linked to you, and nothing used to track you.

Digital Grading Co

If you want a full AI estimate rather than a centering number, this is the other large one: 100K+ downloads on Google Play and 2,953 App Store ratings. Its description says the grading report requires a purchase. Apple's list has monthly plans at $4.99, $9.99 and $14.99 and credit packs for instant grading from 25 credits at $5. The iPhone app was last updated on 3 July 2026 and the Android one on 22 July 2026. Its App Privacy panel lists Usage Data as used to track you, and its Play Data safety section says data isn't encrypted.

A ruler or a clear centering gauge

Not an app, and enough for most cards. Measure the left and right borders in millimetres, then the top and bottom; the wider border's share of each pair is the ratio, so 3 mm and 2 mm make 60/40. Several makers sell clear acrylic or acetate overlays that do the same against printed lines, with a loupe in the kit. We did not check their prices. It costs no subscription and collects nothing, and it is slower over a stack of fifty. We have a guide to doing it by hand and a template to print.

Dead Center, ours

Free on Google Play with nothing to buy and one small banner ad, which is never on screen while you photograph or measure a card. It finds the card's edges, flattens a tilted photo and measures all four borders, then shows the best grade centering alone allows at PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC, front and back. There is no AI grade. The same photo always gives the same numbers, a hard-to-read border gets a ± range, and a full-art card with no border is refused rather than guessed at. Plan a submission sorts a stack by what each card's centering allows and exports it as CSV. It has no iPhone version, it does not cover TAG or ACE, and its Play Data safety section lists location and app activity among data shared with third parties, for the ad and analytics. The browser calculator does the same measurement by hand on a computer.

What these do better than ours

Jade Lizard's calculator is on iPhone, where ours is not, and it covers TAG and ACE, reads borders in millimetres and has a mode for e-Reader cards. Allegro Creative's Android app declares no data collected and shows no ads, which ours cannot say. Centering Check measures screenshots of listings you have not bought yet and can be paid off once. Card Grader Pro, Digital Grading Co and Binder AI at least attempt corners, edges and surface, which ours refuses to judge, and Card Grader Pro will put a human in front of the photo. If you want an opinion on the whole card, one of those is what you were after. If you only need to know whether the centering rules out a 10, any of the centering apps, or a ruler, will tell you.

Frequently asked questions

Is Card Grader Pro free?

The download is. Apple's In-App Purchases row lists Pro at $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, Pro+ at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and per-card Human Grade and Fast Human Grade items from $1.49 to $4.99. Google Play badges it Contains ads and In-app purchases. Neither listing says what the free version includes or what Pro adds. Read 20 October 2026.

Is Card Grader Pro accurate?

Its own listing doesn't claim it is. The description calls the AI and human grades informational estimates and says it does not guarantee any card will get the same grade from PSA, BGS, CGC or any other grading service. Three of the four reviews the App Store showed first on 20 October 2026 say the AI gave the same grade card after card, and two of those mention paying about $50 for the year.

What is the best free app like Card Grader Pro?

That depends on what you wanted from it. If it was the centering, Jade Lizard's Card Centering Calculator on iPhone (2,521 ratings) and Allegro Creative's Card Centering Calculator on Android (100K+ downloads) both measure it from a photo for free, with paid upgrades. If you wanted a judgment on corners, edges and surface, the free apps on this page don't make one; Digital Grading Co and Binder AI do, for a subscription.

Can an app tell me what PSA will grade my card?

No app on this page promises that, and the AI grading apps say so in their own descriptions. What a photo can measure reliably is centering. PSA's published standards ask for about 55/45 or better on the front and 75/25 on the back for a Gem Mint 10. A card that misses those cannot get the grade on centering, however clean its corners are.

Is there a card centering app with no subscription?

Yes. Jade Lizard's Card Centering Calculator sells an Unlock Premium item at $4.99 on the App Store, with no billing period in the name, and the rest of its list is tips. Centering Check offers a $99.99 lifetime option beside its $3.99 monthly plan. Ours, Dead Center, has nothing to buy and shows one banner ad, on Android only.

Do I need an app to check card centering?

No. A millimetre ruler or a clear overlay gauge and a magnifier do the same arithmetic: measure the two borders on one axis, and the wider one's share of the pair is the first number. A 3 mm and a 2 mm border make 60/40. An app saves time on a stack of cards and corrects a tilted photo, and that is about all it adds.

We make one of these, and that is the disclosure

Dead Center is ours. It is free with one banner ad, on Google Play only, and on a computer you can measure a photo in your browser against the same published limits. Everything it does, and what it collects, is on its own page.
