Where we stand, before the list. We build Play and Earn, a small arcade game that pays coins for cleared levels, and it competes with every app on this page. We also make three other reward apps. We take no referral fee from any app named here and there is no affiliate link on this page. Ours appears once, last, and the section after it is about what the others do better.

People leave Mistplay for a few concrete reasons. It pays gift cards rather than a cash transfer. The iPhone and Android apps keep separate balances. Units expire after 180 days without earning. And the rate is personal, so nobody, Mistplay included, can tell you what an hour is worth. The useful question about each alternative is which of those it fixes, and every figure below is from the company's own pages, read on 20 October 2026.

What Mistplay actually publishes

Its Economy Disclosure caps redemptions at “a total maximum value of $550.00 USD per year” and says the games and units on offer are not the same for all Mistplay users. Its terms, last updated 1 October 2026, say units have no cash value and expire if you earn none in 180 days. The iPhone app had 64,784 ratings on the US App Store, and the Android app showed 1.06 million reviews and 50 million downloads on Google Play. Our Mistplay review and how much Mistplay pays go through it in full.

All of them side by side

Mechanics only, because those are the checkable part. Rating counts are the US App Store's, read on 20 October 2026.

Mistplay alternatives compared on what they pay in, the published cash-out minimum, expiry and App Store rating count
App Paid in Published minimum Balance expires App Store ratings
Mistplay Gift cards, PayPal among them Not stated. $550 a year maximum After 180 days with nothing earned 64,784
Freecash PayPal, bank, crypto, gift cards, by region $5 to $20 first time, by region, then $5 for PayPal With the account, after a year without a login 158,692
Swagbucks PayPal or gift cards $5 PayPal for 530 SB, $5 gift card for 500 SB Not checked 147,771
JustPlay PayPal, gift cards or a matched donation Usually none, after three hours of play Six months after coins are credited 218,421
Cash Giraffe PayPal or gift cards $0.20 to PayPal Not stated on the pages we read 21,817
Play and Earn (ours) PayPal cash 2,000 coins ($2.00), then 5,000 ($5.00) Kept on the device Not quoted

No app here publishes what an hour of play earns, ours included, so this table cannot rank them by pay. A low minimum tells you when you can cash out. It says nothing about how fast you get there.

The alternatives

Freecash

Freecash is the broadest of the group: games, surveys and product tests, paid out to PayPal, a bank account, several cryptocurrencies or gift cards, with the list marked as depending on your region. Its game offers pay for in-game objectives, such as reaching a set level within a time limit. Its help center, updated 18 September 2026, says the first withdrawal needs a balance of $5 to $20 depending on region and an ID check. After that there is no threshold beyond the method's own minimum, given as $5 for PayPal. Its terms say rewards have no cash value of their own, and an account may be treated as inactive after a year without a login, with at least 30 days' email notice before closure. We did not find a published value for a coin. The iPhone app had 158,692 ratings, and the Google Play app showed 568,000 reviews and no ads label.

Swagbucks

Swagbucks is mostly surveys, shopping cash back and receipts, with games as one way to earn among many. It is here because it is the only app on this page that prints its prices. Gift cards cost 100 SB to the dollar, so $5 is 500 SB. PayPal costs the same plus 30 SB: 530 SB for $5, 2,530 SB for $25, 10,030 SB for $100. The store page says the extra covers the fees PayPal charges Swagbucks, and that a reward can take up to 10 business days. The iPhone app had 147,771 ratings; the Android app, listed as Swagbucks Play Games + Surveys, showed 451,000 reviews and an ads label. Our Swagbucks review covers the rest.

JustPlay

JustPlay is the closest in spirit to Mistplay, with one large difference: you play from its own library of more than 30 casual games rather than a catalog of other studios' titles. Its store listings say you can cash out every three hours to PayPal or swap coins for gift cards, and that it matches donations to charity. Its terms, last updated 8 June 2026, say there is usually no minimum threshold, that three hours of play or app use are needed before any redemption, and that coins expire six months after they are credited. They also say it guarantees no specific payouts and can change how many coins can be earned without notice. The iPhone app had 218,421 ratings, the most on this page, and the Android app showed 1.76 million reviews and an ads label.

Cash Giraffe

Cash Giraffe pays gems for playtime in each game and bonus gems at level milestones, and its own page is candid that gem rates drop with extended play in a single game and that experienced players earn 20 to 40% faster than new ones. PayPal payouts start at $0.20, the lowest published minimum here, and it says most are processed within a few hours. It is operated by justDice GmbH. Its iPhone listing describes surveys, tasks and offers more than games, while the Google Play app is titled Real Money Games, so the two may differ. The iPhone app had 21,817 ratings, last updated 4 September 2026, and the Android app showed 663,000 reviews and an ads label.

Play and Earn (ours)

Last and for completeness: Play and Earn is a single retro space shooter, free on iPhone, iPad and Android. It pays one coin for each level you clear, allows ten runs a day, and cashes out to PayPal at 2,000 coins, which is $2.00, then 5,000 ($5.00) after that. It carries a banner ad, and an optional video adds three to nine coins to a level already cleared. The coin is a fixed tenth of a cent, but how many levels a run reaches depends on how well you play, so we cannot publish an hourly figure either. The balance lives on the device and does not move between an iPhone and an Android phone, which is the same split we criticise in Mistplay.

What these do better than ours

  • Choice of games. Mistplay, Freecash and Cash Giraffe offer catalogs of real studios' games, and JustPlay has more than 30 of its own. Play and Earn is one arcade game. If you get bored of it, there is nothing else to earn from.
  • Ways to cash out. Freecash lists bank transfers, crypto and a long list of gift cards, and JustPlay lets you give to charity with a matched donation. Ours pays PayPal and nothing else.
  • Lower entry points. Cash Giraffe's $0.20 and JustPlay's usual lack of a threshold reach a first payout well before our $2.00.
  • Published prices. Swagbucks prints every reward and its cost in SB, which lets you do the arithmetic before you start.
  • Scale and track record. Every alternative here has tens of thousands of App Store ratings or more and years of paying people. Ours is new and small.

How to check any of these yourself

Look for three things in an app's own terms before you play: the cash-out minimum, what makes a balance expire, and whether earnings are the same for everyone. Most apps in this category publish the first, bury the second and say no to the third. Then cash out at the first threshold you reach. A balance in one of these apps is a record in a company's database, which is the lesson from the last big app in this category to close without notice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app like Mistplay?

For the same shape of deal, Cash Giraffe and JustPlay are the closest. Both pay you for playing mobile games, both cash out to PayPal, and both publish a low entry point: Cash Giraffe says PayPal payouts start at $0.20, and JustPlay's terms say there is usually no minimum threshold, after three hours of play. Freecash and Swagbucks pay for games too, but most of what they offer is surveys and sign-up offers. None of the five publishes what an hour of play earns, so the honest way to choose is by how you get paid and how long a balance lasts.

Is there an app like Mistplay that pays PayPal cash?

Yes, four of them. Mistplay itself pays gift cards, a PayPal gift card among them, rather than a cash transfer. Freecash, Swagbucks, JustPlay and Cash Giraffe all name PayPal as a cash-out route on their own pages. Swagbucks is the only one that prints the whole price list: $5 to PayPal costs 530 SB and $25 costs 2,530 SB, read on 20 October 2026, and it says the extra covers the fees PayPal charges it.

Is Mistplay on iPhone?

Yes. The iPhone app is called Mistplay: Play Games Earn Cash, and on 20 October 2026 it had 64,784 ratings on the US App Store. Its listing says points earned on iPhone are not transferable to versions of Mistplay on other operating systems, so an Android balance stays on Android. Every alternative on this page also has an iPhone app.

How much does Mistplay pay compared with Freecash?

Neither publishes a rate for an hour of play, so there is no fair number to compare. What they do publish is different. Mistplay caps redemptions at $550 a year and pays gift cards. Freecash sets a first withdrawal threshold of $5 to $20 depending on your region, asks for ID at that first withdrawal, and after that needs only the method's own minimum, which it gives as $5 for PayPal.

Do Mistplay units expire?

Yes. Mistplay's terms say units expire if you do not earn any within a 180-day period, so opening the app without earning does not reset the clock. JustPlay's run out faster in a different way: its terms say coins expire six months after they are credited if you have not redeemed them. Freecash's terms tie expiry to the account instead, which may be treated as inactive after a year without a login.

Are play-to-earn apps like Mistplay worth it?

Only if you would play the games anyway. Every app on this page says in its own material that earnings vary by user, by country or by game. Cash Giraffe says its gem rates fall the longer you play one game, and Mistplay says the units you can earn are not the same for all users. Treat any monthly figure you see in a video as one person's account.
