Where it comes from
Louis Braille, blind from the age of three, published his system in 1829 when he was twenty. He built it from a soldier's night-writing code and cut it down to a cell of six dots that a fingertip reads in one touch.
A message worth knowing: Six dots. Every Braille letter fits in a cell of two columns of three dots, small enough to read in one touch.

This is the cipher desk from Covert Mail, our free app for learning codes. The app teaches Braille a few characters at a time, plans practice around the ones you miss, and keeps an archive of famous real messages to unlock. It is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
