Where it comes from
The alphabet folded in half: the first letter swaps with the last, the second with the second-to-last. It began with the Hebrew alphabet, and the Book of Jeremiah uses it to write Babel as Sheshach.
A message worth knowing: Babel. Jeremiah's Sheshach is Babel in Atbash. Here it is the same trick in English letters.

This is the cipher desk from Covert Mail, our free app for learning codes. The app teaches Atbash a few characters at a time, plans practice around the ones you miss, and keeps an archive of famous real messages to unlock. It is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
