What's in the file
A tab for each job. Concrete gives cubic feet, cubic yards, and how many 80 lb or 60 lb bags. Paint gives the area you'll cover and the gallons and quarts for it, for however many coats. Landscape does mulch, gravel, sand and topsoil, in bags or in yards and tons for a bulk order. Drywall gives sheets, screws, rolls of tape and pails of mud.
There's room for twenty jobs on each tab, so a whole house fits. The first few rows are filled in as examples.
Same math as the app
These are Handyman Calc's own rules, and the answers match the app and our charts. Every length is rounded to the nearest sixteenth of an inch first. Bags, gallons and sheets always round up. A door takes 20 sq ft off the wall and a window takes 12.
Spreadsheets have one catch. They work in decimals, so a 6 by 6 slab at 4 inches, 13.2 cubic feet with waste, over 0.6 a bag can come out a hair over 22, and a plain formula rounds that up to 23 bags. Each formula here multiplies whole numbers and divides once at the end, so it says 22, like the app.
How to use it
Type lengths in feet, with inches as a decimal: 10 ft 6 in is 10.5. Thickness and depth go in inches. Waste, coats and wall height start at the usual numbers, and you can change them on any row.
For Google Sheets, upload the file to Drive and open it with Sheets. Excel and Numbers open it as it is. There are no macros.
Handyman Calc on your phone
Handyman Calc has these four calculators and eleven more, next to a keypad that adds feet, inches and fractions the way a tape reads. It's free on Google Play.
