Where we stand. We make Taco Rain, a free catching game on the App Store and Google Play. It is paid for the other way round from Toca Boca World: one banner ad and nothing to buy. We take no referral fee from Toca Boca, Apple, Google or Xsolla, and there is no affiliate link on this page. Toca Boca World has over 100 million Google Play downloads, so ours does not compete with it in any meaningful sense.
Yes. Toca Boca World is free to download, has no third-party ads and comes with a large free world. Toca Boca makes its money from packs: houses, locations, furniture and outfits sold one at a time, from $0.99.

Toca Boca also moves paid content into the free game. Its help center announced Hospital “available for ALL players” from version 1.126, after years as a purchase. Apple’s list below still shows a Hospital item at $3.99, and the listing does not say what that item now contains.

A dash means that list did not show the pack, not that the pack is missing from the game. Apple caps its list at ten and does not claim it is complete. The web shop’s home page showed 17 packs, up to $5.99; seven are in this table. Where both lists name a pack, the price is the same. On 30 October 2026 every web shop pack was 10% off, under a countdown reading 10 days and 7 hours.
Google Play prints no pack names. Its listing carries an “In-app purchases” badge, and its page data holds the range “$0.49 - $199.99 per item”, read once on 30 October 2026. No item on Apple’s list or the web shop comes near $199.99, and nothing we read says what that item is. Play’s rating line also reads “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)”. Neither the description nor the help center articles we read describe a random purchase.
Turning the shop off
Toca Boca’s help center gives a setting that hides the shop. On Android it is behind the cogwheel at the top right of the main menu. On iPhone and iPad it is in the device’s own Settings app, under Toca World, which moved under Apps in iOS 18. Apple’s listing also shows In-App Controls for age assurance and parental controls.

Toca Boca is testing accounts that would keep progress in the cloud and share purchases across family profiles and platforms. The help center calls it “a limited test with some players”, and gives no date.

The two forms mostly agree, and both are Toca Boca’s own declarations. One line conflicts with its help center. Play says there is no way to ask for deletion, while the help center tells players to send a support ticket to use the right to be forgotten under the GDPR.
What Toca Boca World does better
- No ads at all. Both store descriptions promise no third-party ads, ever. Taco Rain cannot say that; it carries a banner.
- The free part is a whole game. Sixteen locations, 135 characters and a weekly gift is more than many paid games ship.
- A shop switch for parents. Few free games document a way to hide their own store.
- It keeps growing. Version 1.141 shipped this month, and updates land every week or two on Apple’s version history.
- Recognition from both stores: Apple’s iPhone App of the Year for 2021, Editors’ Choice, and Google Play’s Teacher Approved badge.
What we could not check
We did not open the shop inside the app. That leaves out the full catalog, the item Google Play prices at $199.99, the random items its rating line mentions, and what Apple’s $3.99 Hospital item now sells. The web shop’s other carousel positions and the Amazon listing were not read.
