One table is for mulch 2 inches deep and one for 3 inches, which is where Handyman Calc starts. Each row gives cubic yards for a bulk order and the count of 2 cu ft bags.
2 inches deep
| Bed | Cubic yards | 2 cu ft bags |
|---|---|---|
| 3 × 10 ft | 0.19 | 3 |
| 4 × 8 ft | 0.21 | 3 |
| 5 × 10 ft | 0.32 | 5 |
| 10 × 10 ft | 0.65 | 9 |
| 10 × 20 ft | 1.30 | 18 |
| 20 × 20 ft | 2.59 | 35 |
3 inches deep
| Bed | Cubic yards | 2 cu ft bags |
|---|---|---|
| 3 × 10 ft | 0.29 | 4 |
| 4 × 8 ft | 0.31 | 5 |
| 5 × 10 ft | 0.49 | 7 |
| 10 × 10 ft | 0.97 | 14 |
| 10 × 20 ft | 1.94 | 27 |
| 20 × 20 ft | 3.89 | 53 |
How this is worked out
Length times width times depth gives cubic feet. We add 5% because mulch settles, which is Handyman Calc's default for loose material.
Divide by 27 for cubic yards. That's how a landscape supply sells it.
Bags of mulch are usually 2 cu ft. We divide by 2 and round up.
