What is in the PDF

Four pages: two sheets of 20 cards, each a page of letters followed by a page of codes. The cards cover A to Z and 0 to 9, with four blanks left over for letters you keep missing or a code word of your own.

How to print them

Print double-sided and choose flip on long edge (some printers call it long-edge binding). The code pages are laid out in mirror image, so each card's dots and dashes land right behind its letter. Card stock holds up best. Then cut along the dashed lines.

No duplex printer? Print pages 1 and 3 first, put the stack back in the tray face down with the top edge going in first, and print pages 2 and 4. Check one card against the light before cutting the rest.

Games to play with them

Flash and call. Hold up the code side and the first player to say the letter keeps the card.

Tap it out. Draw a letter card and tap or beep its code; the other player names it. That is closer to how Morse is really used, by sound, and the free Morse code trainer takes it further.

Spell a word. Lay out the code side of a short word and let someone read it, then check by turning the cards over.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print double-sided flashcards so they line up?

Choose double-sided printing and flip on the long edge. The back pages are already mirrored, so each code lands behind its letter.

Which Morse code is on the cards?

International Morse Code, the same table as our Morse code chart and translator.

Are flashcards a good way to learn Morse code?

They help you learn what each letter looks like written down, and they make good games. To copy Morse by ear, learn each letter as a sound; tap the cards out loud rather than counting dots.
