Where we stand. Our music app is Practice Proof, which listens to a practice session and keeps only the minutes with an instrument in them. The iPhone version is free, carries a single banner and sells nothing; the Android version is not out yet. Yousician teaches and Practice Proof keeps the log, so a family could use both. Nobody pays us for links on this page.

Only a little of it. A free Yousician account gets the guided learning path on phone, tablet and computer, with limited lesson time. Everything else needs Premium, Premium+ or Premium+ Family, from $14.99 a month or $89.99 a year in the US. A 7-day trial is offered on the yearly plans.

The plans, from Yousician's own page

Yousician's plans and US prices from account.yousician.com/plans, 1 November 2026
Plan Instruments Songs Accounts Monthly Yearly
Free Guided path, limited lesson time— 1$0$0
Premium 1 of your choiceSongs by Yousician 1$14.99$89.99
Premium+ All 5Adds popular songs 1$29.99$159.99
Premium+ Family All 5Adds popular songs Up to 4$44.99$209.99

The page's compare table ticks two rows for Free, the guided learning path and access across devices, and leaves “Unlimited lesson time” unticked. It prints no daily allowance. “Save up to 50%” undersells the bigger plans: against twelve monthly payments, yearly saves 50% on Premium, 56% on Premium+ and 61% on Family (derived).

One instrument or five?

The plans page lists Premium with “1 instrument of your choice” and ticks “Access to learn all 5 instruments” only for Premium+ and Family. The help center's “Yousician Premium plans” article, updated 30 October 2026, says all Premium plans include unlimited lessons for guitar, piano, bass, ukulele and singing, and its table ticks all five instruments for Premium too. Apple's list names the plan “One Instrument”, which agrees with the plans page. Read the payment screen before choosing Premium to learn two instruments.

What Apple lists

The In-App Purchases rows of Yousician's apps on the US App Store, 1 November 2026, grouped by name
App Basic plan Premium+ / Premium Plus
Yousician (guitar, bass, singing) One Instrument: $19.99 monthly, $119.99 yearly (twice); “Free Trial” item $119.99 $29.99 monthly (twice), $59.99 for 3 months, yearly at $159.99 once and $179.99 twice
Piano by Yousician Premium: $19.99 monthly, $119.99 yearly $29.99 monthly, $59.99 quarterly, $159.99 and $179.99 yearly
Ukulele by Yousician Premium: $13.99 and $19.99 a month; $69.99 and $89.99 yearly $19.99 and $29.99 a month, $59.99 for 3 months, $99.99 and $139.99 yearly

Through Apple, the one-instrument plan costs $5 a month or $30 a year more than Premium on the web. Premium+ matches the web at $29.99 and $159.99, beside a $179.99 yearly item and a 3-month plan the web page does not offer. Ukulele by Yousician lists the lowest prices of the three, and the help center says one subscription works in every Yousician app. Apple does not say which buyer sees which price, and each list is capped at ten items. No Family item appears in any of them. There is no promoted purchase above App Privacy. Google Play shows an “In-app purchases” badge and no items-and-offers section, read once on 1 November 2026.

Before you subscribe

  • Starting the 7-day trial takes a card or other payment method. Only the yearly plans have one, and the first year is charged when it ends unless you cancel first.
  • Payments are final under the payment terms. The 14-day withdrawal right applies only if the paid parts were never opened, and the plans page says there is no refund after the trial.
  • Family is bought on the website. Upgrading from an Apple subscription starts a new one billed by Yousician, and the Apple one keeps running until you cancel it yourself; Yousician says it cannot refund Apple's charge. A Google Play subscription is canceled for you.
  • If the Family plan's owner cancels, every member loses Premium+.
  • Popular songs are licensed. Yousician's replies to reviews say songs are removed when a license expires.
  • GuitarTuna sells its own plans (Tools, Play, Learn and Pro on Apple's list) and has its own cancel article in the help center.

The privacy price

Apple's App Privacy panel lists identifiers as data that may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. It links purchases, coarse location, email address, user ID, device ID and product interaction to your identity, for purposes that include the developer's advertising or marketing. The Information row on all four Yousician apps reads “Contains Advertising”; the Google Play listing shows no “Contains ads” label. Google Play's data safety summary says personal info, financial info and three other types may be shared with third parties.

What Yousician does better

  • It teaches. The app listens through the microphone and scores each note and chord as you play, across five instruments and over 10,000 lessons, exercises and songs on Premium+. Practice Proof has no lessons at all.
  • It runs on phones, tablets and computers, and one subscription carries across its guitar, piano and ukulele apps.
  • Eleven years of track record: on the App Store since February 2015, 139,114 ratings there, 50 million-plus Google Play downloads and an Editors' Choice badge. Practice Proof launched in October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yousician completely free?

No. A free account gets the guided learning path on every device. Yousician's plans page doesn't give free accounts unlimited lesson time, weekly challenges or lessons for all levels, and it doesn't say how much time you get. The rest needs a paid plan.

How much is Yousician a month?

On Yousician's US plans page, $14.99 for Premium, $29.99 for Premium+ and $44.99 for Premium+ Family. Apple's list prices the one-instrument plan at $19.99 a month.

How much is Yousician for a year?

$89.99 for Premium, $159.99 for Premium+ and $209.99 for Premium+ Family, on the US plans page. Apple lists $119.99 for the one-instrument yearly plan and both $159.99 and $179.99 for Premium+.

What is the difference between Yousician Premium and Premium+?

Premium has songs written by Yousician and, on the plans page, one instrument of your choice. Premium+ adds popular songs and all five instruments: guitar, bass, piano, ukulele and singing. The help center's plans article says every plan includes all five, so check the payment screen before you pick Premium.

How much is the Yousician family plan?

$44.99 a month or $209.99 a year in the US, for up to four people, each with their own account. It's sold on Yousician's website, not in the app stores.

Does Yousician have a free trial?

Seven days, with yearly plans only. You need a payment method to start it, and it turns into the yearly plan unless you cancel before it ends. No longer trial is published on any page we read.

Is Piano by Yousician free?

It works the same way as the guitar app. The help center says one Yousician subscription works in all Yousician apps, so a Premium+ plan bought in one covers piano, ukulele, guitar, bass and singing.

How do I cancel my Yousician subscription?

Cancel with whoever charged you. If Yousician did, use the Membership section of your account on the website. Apple and Google Play subscriptions are canceled in each store's subscription settings. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.

Can I get a refund if I cancel Yousician?

Usually not. Yousician's payment terms call payments final and non-refundable unless the law says otherwise, and its plans page says there's no refund after the trial ends. There's a 14-day withdrawal right only if you haven't used the paid parts. Store purchases follow Apple's or Google's terms.

Why did songs disappear from Yousician?

Licenses. Yousician's replies to Google Play reviews in August and September 2026 say songs are removed when a music license expires, and point to the New on Yousician collection for additions.

Our practice log

Practice Proof listens while your kid practices and counts only the minutes an instrument is heard, then prints a sheet for the teacher. Free on the App Store with one banner on the home screen, and coming to Google Play.
