Where we stand. We make Practice Proof, a practice log that counts the minutes it hears you play. It is free on the App Store with one banner ad and nothing to buy, and not yet on Google Play. It teaches no songs, so it sits beside flowkey rather than against it. We take no referral fee from flowkey, Apple or Google.
Partly. A free flowkey account keeps a few songs and course lessons for good, with every practice tool switched on. Everything else needs one of three subscriptions: Classic, Premium or Family. Yearly plans start with a 7-day Premium trial, and there is no lifetime plan.
The three plans, in flowkey's own figures
| Plan | Songs | Users | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free account | A few songs and lessons | 1 | $0 | $0 |
| Classic | All courses, classical and public-domain songs | 1 | $16.49 | $99.99 |
| Premium | Classic plus pop, rock, jazz, film, TV, game music and ABRSM pieces | 1 | $24.99 | $149.99 |
| Family | Everything in Premium | Up to 5 | $37.49 | $224.99 |
The help center calls these prices an example and says they vary by country. Paying yearly costs about half of twelve monthly payments on every plan: $99.99 against $197.88 for Classic (derived). Its upgrade article uses different names again, “Basic or Full Song Access”, for the same choice.
What Apple lists
| Item name | Prices listed |
|---|---|
| flowkey Premium (five items) | $24.99, $29.99, $139.99, $149.99, $179.99 |
| flowkey Classic (five items) | $19.99, $38.99, $119.99, $119.99, $119.99 |
The help center says only Premium can be bought through the App Store or Google Play, and that Classic and Family are sold in the web app. Apple's list has five items named flowkey Classic, and none named Family. Two of the Premium prices, $24.99 and $149.99, match the help center's monthly and yearly figures. Classic's do not: the web example is $16.49 and $99.99, and Apple's nearest are $19.99 and $119.99. Apple gives no billing periods, so which item is offered to whom cannot be read from outside the app. The list stops at ten items. There is no promoted purchase above the App Privacy panel. Google Play shows an “In-app purchases” badge and no items-and-offers section, read once on 31 October 2026.
Before you subscribe
- The 7-day trial comes with yearly plans only, and discounted offers have none.
- A yearly plan is charged for all 12 months up front. Canceling early keeps access to the end of the year, with no refund mentioned beyond the 14-day money-back guarantee.
- Cancel where you bought it: the web app's Settings, Account, Unsubscribe, or the store's Subscriptions screen.
- An account cannot be deleted while a subscription is active, so cancel first.
- A Yamaha keyboard or digital piano registered with Yamaha earns 3 free months of Premium in six regions, including the US.
The privacy price
Apple's App Privacy panel lists purchases, contact info and identifiers as data that may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. It also links purchase history, email address, name, coarse location and a device ID to your identity. Google Play's data safety summary says personal info, financial info and two other types may be shared with third parties.
Other piano apps, and how they price
| App | What Apple lists | Ratings |
|---|---|---|
| Simply Piano | Ten items, $19.99 to $179.99, including Family Plan items | 860,565 |
| flowkey | Ten items, $19.99 to $179.99, Classic and Premium | 65,929 |
| Piano by Yousician | Premium $19.99 a month, $119.99 a year; Premium Plus $29.99 a month to $179.99 a year | 22,838 |
| Skoove | Ten Premium items, $4.99 to $149.99, five named Free Trial | 22,328 |

What flowkey does better
- It teaches the piece. Every song has a video of a pianist's hands, a wait mode that listens through the microphone or MIDI, loops and one-hand practice. Practice Proof teaches nothing; it only logs the practice.
- It works on a laptop as well as a phone or tablet, through its web app, and the free account never runs out.
- It has been on the App Store since August 2015, with 65,929 ratings there and over five million Google Play downloads. Practice Proof is new and has neither.
