Where we stand. We make Taco Rain, a free catching game on the App Store and Google Play with one banner ad and nothing to buy. Khan Academy Kids is a learning app for ages 2 to 8 with no ads at all, so the two compete only for a child's screen time. We take no referral fee from Khan Academy, Apple or Google.

Yes, entirely. Khan Academy Kids has no ads, no subscription and nothing for sale in the app. Its site calls it “100% free - forever”, and both store listings agree. The one paid product is Khan Academy Kids for Schools, sold to schools and districts for 100 students or more.

The school plan

The FAQ draws the line clearly. A teacher gets the classroom tools free: a class account, assigned lessons, activities by standard and class reports, with students able to continue at home. Khan Academy Kids for Schools adds web-based teacher tools, school and district reports, PreK assessments, professional learning, an implementation manager and technical support. The school or district buys it, and publicly funded PreK programs may qualify to use it free for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years.

The privacy price

Apple's App Privacy panel has no “used to track you” section and no data linked to the user; it lists identifiers, usage data, contact info and diagnostics as not linked. Google Play says no data is shared with third parties and that the app follows the Play Families Policy. The FAQ says Khan Academy does not sell personal information, show ads, or let third parties track children across other apps.

For preschool apps that do charge, see is Pok Pok free, where Apple's list shows ten prices for one subscription, and is ABCmouse free, which gives away 10 activities a day.

What Khan Academy Kids does better
