Where we stand, before the list. We make Broadside, a free vertical shooter with a sailing ship instead of a plane, and this page counts other people’s ads and shop prices. We take no referral fee from any game here, ours is not first, and every other game below has far more players than ours. A section near the end says what they do better.
Galaxy Attack: Alien Shooter is one of the biggest vertical shooters on either store: 655,823 ratings on the App Store and 2.52 million reviews on Google Play, read on 20 October 2026. Its own listings also explain why people go looking for something else. Apple’s age rating box says it contains loot boxes and advertising, and the shop sells an item called “X2 Win Point, Zero Lose Point” for $4.99.
What Galaxy Attack charges past the free part
The game is free. Apple’s In-App Purchases row lists ten items, from 2 crystals at $0.99 to 40,000 event coins at $29.99, with a $9.99 Stone Pack and 120 crystals at $19.99 in between. The promoted purchases above the privacy panel add a $9.99 Battle Pass IV, a $2.99 three-day starter pack and a $4.99 Military Chest x10. On Google Play the listing carries the Contains ads and In-app purchases badges and is rated Everyone, with In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items).
The data side is printed too. Apple’s panel lists identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as data that may be used to track you across other companies’ apps. Play’s data safety summary says the game may share location, personal info and two other types with third parties, that data isn’t encrypted, and that data can’t be deleted. It is actively maintained: version 5.21.7 shipped three days before we read the page, and the version history shows several releases a month.
All of them side by side

“Shop, as listed” is what Apple’s In-App Purchases row shows, which is up to ten items and not a full price list. A shop is not a fault. The games that sell something are mostly the ones still being updated.
The alternatives
Sky Force Reloaded, the polished one
Infinite Dreams’ shooter has 15 stages, 9 aircraft, difficulty modes from Normal to Nightmare, and operatives to rescue mid-stage. Apple lists five purchases: Precious Cargo $1.99, Star Doubler $3.99, Plane Generator $3.99, Ads Removal $3.99 and a $9.99 Starter Pack. 11,436 ratings on the App Store at 4.8 stars, 720.2 MB, iOS 13 or later, and it runs on Apple TV. Google Play shows 217,000 reviews, 10 million or more downloads, an Editors’ Choice badge and the Contains ads badge. Apple lists location, identifiers and usage data as data that may track you. The iPhone version was last updated on 16 July 2024.
1945 Air Force, the same business with planes
This is the closest in look to the old arcade plane games. It lists over 900 levels and more than 60 Second World War aircraft, with PvP, clans and offline play. 432,972 ratings on the App Store at 4.8 stars, rated 13+ with Infrequent Simulated Gambling, and Contains Advertising. Apple’s row runs from a $0.99 gem pack to one at $99.99, with a $3.99 seven-day premium offer. On Google Play it has 4.33 million reviews and 100 million or more downloads, and its developer name there is 1SOFT, the same as Galaxy Attack’s. Galaxiga, a third 1SOFT shooter, sells gem packs to $49.99 on Apple. If the shop is why you are leaving Galaxy Attack, these two will feel familiar.
AirAttack 2, a short campaign with a small shop
A Second World War top-down shooter from Colya Games: 22 campaign missions plus a survival mission, six planes, an orchestral soundtrack, MFi controller support, and portrait or landscape play, offline. Apple’s row has five items, from $0.99 coins to $9.99 bundles. 615 ratings on the App Store at 4.8 stars, rated 13+, 241.5 MB, iOS 12.4 or later. Google Play shows 88,200 reviews, 5 million or more downloads and the Contains ads badge, and says you can request that your data be deleted.
Bullet Hell Monday, for people who want the hard version
A Japanese-style bullet hell game by Masayuki Ito, with over 50 stages, a chapter mode for beginners, a challenge mode for experts and an endless mode. Its biggest purchase is a $3.99 Full Upgrade & Challenge Pack; the rest are ship types at $0.99 and $1.99. 1,071 ratings on the App Store at 4.9 stars, 97.3 MB, Contains Advertising. Google Play shows 16,800 reviews and 500,000 or more downloads. Its Apple privacy panel lists purchases, identifiers, usage data and other data as data that may track you, the longest tracking list on this page.
Broadside, ours
Broadside swaps the plane for a 1700s wooden ship. The cannons fire on their own, you steer by dragging, and each of its twenty-five voyages ends with a sea monster. Doubloons buy upgrades and paint, and cannot be bought with money. It is on Google Play only, rated Everyone with Mild Fantasy Violence, and updated on 5 October 2026. The Android version shows a banner on the menu screens, can show a full-screen ad when you leave the summary after a boss fight, and offers two optional reward videos. The browser version has no ads and no analytics, and it is the way to play on an iPhone, because there is no iPhone app. Play showed no ratings and “0+” downloads on 20 October 2026, which is no signal at all.
Danmaku Unlimited 3, paid once and left alone
Sunny Tam’s bullet hell shooter costs $4.99, and the listing says there are no ads and no in-app purchases. Five stages, up to 25 weapon combinations, two modes, and Family Sharing for up to six people. It is also the oldest thing here: last updated 21 November 2018, 34 ratings at 4.6 stars, and a privacy section that reads “No Details Provided”. We could not find a current Google Play listing for it on 20 October 2026.
What these games do better than ours
- They are on the iPhone. Every other game on this page has an App Store listing. Broadside does not, and on an iPhone you play it in a browser tab.
- They are much bigger. 1945 Air Force lists over 900 levels and Galaxy Attack lists 140 on Apple and 160+ on Play, against our twenty-five voyages.
- They have other people in them. Galaxy Attack, 1945 Air Force and Galaxiga have PvP or co-op modes. Broadside is single player only.
- Danmaku Unlimited 3 has no ads anywhere. Our Android app carries a banner and can show a full-screen ad. Only our browser version matches it, and that one cannot keep your progress across devices.
- They have an audience and we have a listing. Galaxy Attack and 1945 Air Force each report more than 100 million Play downloads. Ours reported none worth counting on 20 October 2026.
How to check any of this yourself
On the App Store, expand the In-App Purchases row under Information and read the age rating box, which is where “Contains Loot Boxes” and “Simulated Gambling” appear. On Google Play, read the line under the content rating for “Includes Random Items”, then open Data safety. Check the seller name too, because several unrelated shooters share the words Galaxy Attack.
