Where we stand, before the list. We make Pie Cannon, a free fairground shooting gallery with ducks in it, and this page counts other people’s ads and shop prices. We take no referral fee from any game here, ours is not first, and almost every game below has far more players than ours. A section near the end says what they do better.
Duck Hunt was a launch title for the Nintendo Entertainment System, played with the Zapper light gun. Nintendo has never made a phone version, and the last way to buy it digitally, the Wii U Virtual Console, closed to purchases on 27 March 2023. So everything on this page is a substitute, and most of them are a different kind of game.
Where Duck Hunt is now
Nintendo’s own page for the game describes it as an NES launch title that will “really test your reflexes”, and lists a Wii U version “played with the Wii Remote instead of the NES Zapper light gun”. The same page now carries Nintendo’s notice that Wii U eShop purchases ended on 27 March 2023. Nintendo Support confirms the date and says that games already bought can still be redownloaded.
We did not find Duck Hunt in Nintendo Life’s list of the NES games on Nintendo Switch Online, dated 14 October 2026, and Hogan’s Alley and Wild Gunman, two other Zapper games, were missing from it too. On the App Store, a search for Nintendo’s apps on 20 October 2026 returned thirteen, from Super Mario Run to Nintendo Music, and none was Duck Hunt.
All of them side by side

“Shop, as listed” is what Apple’s In-App Purchases row shows, which is up to ten items and not a full price list. A shop is not a fault. The games that sell something are mostly the ones still being updated.
The alternatives
Can Knockdown 3, the fairground classic
Infinite Dreams’ series is the best-known carnival game on phones, though it is a throwing game: you knock stacked cans off shelves with a ball. The App Store lists one purchase, Remove ads at $1.99, and the Contains Advertising notice. 2,135 ratings on the App Store at 4.6 stars, 195.1 MB, iOS 15 or later. Google Play shows 400,000 reviews, 10 million or more downloads and both the Contains ads and In-app purchases badges. Apple lists location, user content, identifiers and usage data as data that may track you. The 2010 original, Can Knockdown, is still listed too; its iPhone version was last updated on 2 October 2023 and sells a $0.99 full version.
Duckz!, the closest thing to hunting ducks
Shotgun Gaming describes Duckz! as reimagining duck hunt games as a first-person shooter: aiming is automatic, you tap to shoot, and you have to lead the bird. You hunt on foot or from a truck and buy guns with your earnings. Apple’s row lists coins from $0.99 to $17.99 and a $3.99 VIP item. 3,758 ratings on the App Store at 4.5 stars, rated 13+, 294.6 MB. Google Play shows 4,790 reviews, a million or more downloads and a Teen rating, and says it may share location, app activity and two other data types with third parties. The iPhone version was last updated on 17 January 2025.
Clay Hunt PRO, paid once
From the same studio, a shotgun simulator with clay targets and pheasants across eight game modes. It costs $4.99 on the App Store, where the listing shows no in-app purchases and no advertising notice. On Google Play it costs $5.49 and is also part of Play Pass. 1,064 ratings on the App Store at 4.7 stars, rated 13+, iOS 13 or later, and it runs on Apple Vision Pro. Apple lists identifiers as data that may track you; Google Play’s data safety section says no data is collected or shared. It is realistic rather than cartoonish, which is either the point or the problem.
Fair Shot!, new and busy
A carnival can-toss from Horus Entertainment that first appeared on 16 July 2026 and is still at version 0.2.9 on the App Store. It already has 15,701 ratings at 4.7 stars there, and Google Play shows 500,000 or more downloads. Apple’s row lists ten items, including Remove Ads at $6.99 and a Super Bundle at $19.99. Apple lists location, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as data that may track you, and Google Play’s data safety section says data isn’t encrypted. 324.5 MB, rated 4+.
Duck Hunting 3D: FPS Shooting, the realistic one
MINOR BUGS’ game is a 3D hunting game with ducks and other animals, missions and a gun collection. It is the largest download here at 822.6 MB and is rated 13+. Apple’s row lists ten items, including Remove Ads at $2.99 and Unlock Everything at $9.99, and the listing carries the Contains Advertising notice. 5,150 ratings on the App Store at 4.5 stars, updated on 15 October 2026. Apple lists location, usage data and other data as data that may track you. We did not check for a Google Play version.
Pie Cannon, ours
Pie Cannon is a fairground shooting gallery. Ducks ride two belts behind wooden posts, you tap a target to splat it with a pie, and hitting a prize teddy costs you a ticket. There are fifty stalls in five districts, an endless mode and a daily stall. Stars open the next district and cannot be bought. It is on Google Play only, rated Everyone with Mild Fantasy Violence, and was last updated on 10 September 2026. The Android app shows a banner on the menus and one full-screen ad between stalls, and has no in-app purchases and no reward videos. The browser version has no ads, and it is the way to play on an iPhone, because there is no iPhone app. Play showed no ratings and “0+” downloads on 20 October 2026, which tells you nothing about the game.
Flying Duck Arcade, the plain one
The nearest thing on the App Store to a tap-the-duck gallery, and the most neglected. Its one version, 1.0, is dated 3 August 2020. You tap ducks for a high score and compare it in Game Center. 220 ratings at 4.4 stars, rated 13+, iPhone only, and an App Privacy section that reads “No Details Provided”. We list it because it is the closest in shape, not because it is cared for.
The ones using the name
Google Play has several games called Duck Hunt that Nintendo did not make. The largest we found, Retro Duck Hunt from SoftINDY, shows 100,000 or more downloads, 422 reviews at 4.6 stars, the Contains ads badge and a last update on 2 October 2024. Its description calls Duck Hunt one of the most iconic shooting games of the 1980s and copies the round structure. Check the developer line before you install anything with the name on it.
What these games do better than ours
- Most of them are on the iPhone. Every game in the table except ours has an App Store listing. Pie Cannon does not, and on an iPhone you play it in a browser tab.
- Clay Hunt PRO has no ads at all. You pay once and that is the whole deal. Our Android app carries a banner and a full-screen ad between stalls, and only the browser version matches it.
- Duckz! and the 3D hunting games feel like hunting. Shotgun spread, leading the bird, open landscapes. Pie Cannon is a cartoon fairground booth with posts and belts, and if you wanted the dog and the tall grass we do not make that.
- They have an audience and we have a listing. Can Knockdown 3 reports more than 10 million Play downloads and 400,000 reviews. Ours reported none worth counting on 20 October 2026.
How to check any of this yourself
On the App Store, expand the In-App Purchases row under Information and read the App Privacy panel, then check the version date. On Google Play, look for the Contains ads and In-app purchases badges under the title and open Data safety. And when a famous game seems to be in the store under its own name, read the developer line: Nintendo’s apps are listed under Nintendo Co., Ltd.
