What is on the sheet
Page one is counting. Ten boxes hold from one to ten wooden carnival ducks, mixed up, with a square in each box for the number. They're the ducks from our shooting gallery game Pie Cannon, drawn as outlines to color in after.
Page two starts with five addition problems drawn as ducks, all adding to ten or less. Under them is Splat the ducks: a row of ducks with some crossed out because a pie knocked them down, and a take-away problem to match, like 8 − 6. Kids count the ducks still standing.
The answers are printed upside down along the bottom of each page.
Ways to use it
It suits a fair-day or carnival theme, or a rainy afternoon. Line up toy ducks or bath ducks to match a row, then knock them over with a beanbag and count what's left. That's the take-away row, played for real.
The PDF is two pages at US Letter size. Print both, or only the one that fits.
Frequently asked questions
What age is this duck math worksheet for?
Page one, counting one to ten, suits preschool and kindergarten. Page two adds to ten and then takes away, which is kindergarten and first grade. Print only the page that fits.
How do kids do the take-away problems?
The knocked-down ducks are already crossed out, so a child counts the ones left. Once that's easy, cover the X's and have them cross out their own.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. The answers are printed upside down at the bottom of each page.
Can I copy it for my class?
Yes. Print as many as you like for a classroom, a fair-day party or a homeschool group. It's free, with no sign-up.
Pie Cannon on your phone
Pie Cannon is a fairground shooting gallery: ducks ride the belts and you tap one to splat it with a pie. A duck is ten points, and a round is sixty seconds. You can also play it in your browser. It's free on Google Play.
