This policy covers one app: Community Stress First Aid for iPhone and iPad, which appears on your home screen as "Stress Aid". Our other apps and this website are covered by the general Illumination Development privacy policy, which does not apply here — it describes advertising and reward tracking that this app does not have.
The short version
This app collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking, no server. Nothing you read, tap, or search for in this app leaves your device, because there is nothing in the app capable of sending it. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected", and the 2011–2018 versions collected nothing either.
That is a deliberate design decision rather than an omission. The app contains a suicide-intervention screen and a crisis referral path. A record that a particular device opened that screen is not data worth having, so the app has no way to create one.
What the app does not do
- No account, sign-in, profile, or identifier of any kind — not even an anonymous one.
- No analytics, usage measurement, or event logging.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting.
- No advertising. There is no ad SDK in the app, no advertising identifier (no IDFA, no Google Advertising ID), and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing it could ask permission for.
- No third-party SDKs receive anything about you, because the app contains none that collect anything.
- No server. The app has no backend and makes no network requests of its own. Every screen of guidance is stored inside the app when you download it, which is also why it works with no signal at all.
- Nothing about you is stored on your device: no history of the screens you visited, no notes, no saved state.
Phone numbers, text lines, and links
Tapping a phone number hands it to the iPhone's Phone app. Tapping the Veterans Crisis Line text shortcode opens Messages. Tapping a link opens Safari. In every case you leave this app, and the app is not told what happened next — it does not know whether you placed the call, and it keeps no record that you tapped.
Once you have left, you are dealing with someone else. Calls and texts are carried by your mobile network. The crisis organizations, hotlines, and reference sites the app links to are independent of us; their own privacy practices apply to anything you tell them, and we receive nothing from them about you.
If you email us
The Contact Support item in Settings opens your own mail app with a message addressed to support@illuminationdevelopment.com. Nothing is attached to it: no device identifier, no diagnostics, no record of what you were reading. It is an ordinary email, and you can see and edit every word of it before you send it.
If you do send one, we have your email address and whatever you chose to write. We use it to reply to you and nothing else — it is not added to a mailing list, not used for advertising, and not shared or sold. Ask us to delete it and we will.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and CPRA, and comparable laws elsewhere, you have rights to access, correct, port, and delete the personal information a company holds about you. For this app there is nothing to exercise them against, because we hold nothing about you and never have.
The single exception is an email you have sent us. To have that deleted, write to privacy@illuminationdevelopment.com.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, in the specific senses those laws give those terms. We have none to sell or share.
Children
The app collects nothing from anyone, of any age, and that includes children. It asks for no information and stores none.
A note about this web page
The app does not display this page — tapping Privacy Policy in the app opens it in Safari, and this website, unlike the app, does use Google Analytics to see which pages people find useful. That is described in the general policy, and it applies to your visit to this page, not to your use of the app. The app itself contacts nothing.
Changes to this policy
If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the version that changes it reaches the App Store, and the App Store privacy label changes with it. Revisions are posted here with an updated date.
